Since 1948, Modern Woodmen of America has helped students to develop skills in clear thinking and public speaking, paving their way to future success in school, careers, and life. The Speech Contest is designed for Grades 5 through 8. Assumption BVM School is the only school in the Pulaski area to enter the Woodmen Speech Contest. Our 5th Grade students have been participating for 20+ years.

This year’s theme is “What Does It Mean to Be a Hero?” Speeches must be three to five minutes long and in the student’s own words. Our 5th Grade students worked very hard to compose their speeches, and all are to be commended. This year’s top 3 are: first place – Ellie Mangold, second place – Olivia Burdette, and third place – Alex Freeman. Thank you to this year’s judges – Sharon Holl, Lois Holewinski, and Bec Kurzynske.
