This is my third year as a teacher! I am originally from La Crosse, WI, but moved to the Green Bay area with my family when I began middle school. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in Elementary/Middle School Education and a minor in Theatre and Dance (so don’t be surprised if you see plays, songs, and silly things in the near future!). Last year, I moved into my first apartment located in Hobart. I have a twin sister, Macie (sorry, you might see double from time to time) and a younger sister, Callie (she is studying to be a dental hygentist). Back at my parents’ house are my two cats Oreo and Winston (also note that I am obsessed with anything cat/”Pete the Cat” so I already get along great with the cat-obsessed kiddos). Fun fact: I have taught Winston a whole bunch of tricks, that he is VERY good at, including sit, lay down, roll over, shake, high five, kiss, beg, jump, and stand up. Something that many of you may already know is that I recently got engaged about a year ago to my "high school sweetheart" of now ten years, Robert. This was a complete surprise, as we were in St. Louis at a Michael Bublé concert (my favorite artist) over Spring Break (now a year ago). Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Robert and I had to push our wedding off a whole year, so now we will not get married until this upcoming July.
In my free time, I love to perform! Theatre and dance has been my whole life since the age of five. Dancing holds a very special place in my heart. Fun fact: My whole college career I was "lead dancer" in every production! I also enjoy staying active, attempting to cook, reading, watching Netflix (who doesn’t?), spending time with my friends and family, and traveling whenever the opportunity comes.
I am so excited to be teaching in such a wonderful and supportive community. I am sure we will have a fun and adventurous year full of growth! I am blessed to be able to guide your child both academically and in faith, and I look forward to getting to know your child and your family this year!
To me, teaching is the best job in the world. Being with creative, energetic, crazy, smart, and loving children is exactly where I am meant to be.
Today, the students finished their Germination Study and took home their plants in their bags. Some didn't survive, and that's okay, so we celebrated the ones who did make it. The second and third graders enjoyed this science unit!
We have been studying plants and how they grow for about 4 weeks now! The students have been so excited to watch their seeds grow! Each student received 4 different types of seeds to study - lima bean, pea, corn, and heirloom bean. First, the students took notes on what each seed looked like and made sure to document it like a real scientist. Next, for each seed, the students were given a labeled plastic bag. From there, they were instructed to wet a piece of paper towel, placed it at the bottom of the bag, put the seed on top of the wet paper towel to help in grow, and hung each bag up on a window for plenty of sunlight. Some of the seeds took a while to begin their germination process, but eventually we were able to see the process each were going through. The students observed their plants' growth each day and took scientific notes to document how each plant was growing. What a fun process it has been!
Online Learning: Wednesday, October 7th - Monday, October 26th, 2020.
Last year, we read the book, "What if You Had Animal Teeth?!", a fun story with nonfiction information about a variety animals and what their teeth are capable of! The students then wrote about what animal teeth they would have if they had the choice! We had so much fun with this, so this year, the students and I enjoyed another book from this series. This time around, the second-and-third-graders wrote about the animal ears they would choose, after we read, "What if You Had Animal Ears?!", of course!!
Today for our writing prompt, we went outside to give our brains some power with some fresh air! The students all chose separate places on the playground to take off their masks and get started on their writing. Whenever we have the opportunity, the class loves to go outside to take a mask break and get work done! This is perfect when the weather is still so nice outside! For their writing prompt, the students were told to write about anything they wanted to. Sometimes, this is tricky because when you are told what to write about then you know the general expectations, but I wanted the 2nd and 3rd graders to be able to come up with their own ideas. For some, this was difficult and took some time to get started. For others, they were excited to not have any restrictions and write freely about anything and everything. By the time we were done, some of the students ended up writing four to five pages of content! WOW!
Even though this year looks different with everyone wearing masks, the students were so excited to be back in the building, see their friends, and start learning!! We are all so happy to be back in the classroom together, and we are ready to make it a good year no matter what!
