We had another great week at school! It was a little short especially with that delayed start on Tuesday but we accomplished a lot this week! Friendly reminder, this week is Catholic Schools week. ABVM has a lot of fun activities planned for your kiddos to enjoy. Also I just wanted to invite you all to our Open House on Thursday. Come enjoy Mass with us and see what we’re doing in class! All are invited!
In the Silver Knights we read the story Tops and Bottoms. It is a funny trickster tale about a very lazy bear that keeps getting tricked by a rabbit. We worked on identifying the story’s theme which we discovered was that you need to work hard if you want to get anything in life. We then connected that to our own lives that if we want to be better at basketball we need to practice or if we wanted to be better readers we need to read. We also worked on idioms which was a little hard so we will be continuing to work on them this week. Finally we continued working on mastering writing a full opinion by writing an introductory sentence, 3 reasons why, and a conclusion on a variety of topics.
In math we continued working on our math facts. Please help your child at home with x3, x6, and x7s. They are proving to be the most difficult to figure out. Also this week we have been working on fractions. We have been discussing what proper and improper fractions are and drawing pictures of each to compare them.
In social studies we have been working on our maps skills by learning about the 5 regions of the United States. The students all took a region and have been researching what states are included in it, its climate, vegetation, minerals, and its landmarks. This week the students will be decorating their region with major landforms found on it and printing off pictures of major landmarks that can be found within their region.
In religion we talked a lot about what makes are faith special and why we love coming to ABVM! We also made posters that will be hung up around the school telling everyone the things we love about our school.
Have a fantastic week!
